A loan helped to expand his butcher shop.

Francis's story

Francis has a mixed farm that produces tea, maize, tomatoes, onions, beans and bananas, which are all sold at the local market. He has been farming for fifteen years in the town of Kisii in western Kenya and employs one farmhand. He also owns and operates a butcher shop in the same location.

Francis is 47 years old. He is married and has been blessed with four children who are now between the ages of 7 and 22. All of the children attend school.

Francis recently repaid his second loan from Juhudi Kilimo and has requested this loan of 80,000KES to expand his butcher shop. The income from this investment will enable him to take his son to college and improve the livelihood of his family. The major challenges he is facing in farming are unpredictable weather conditions and diseases that affect his production. In future, he would like to do large-scale farming and own a string of butcheries to supply meat to institutions.
