A loan helped a single mother, minority/women-owned business open a storefront.

Chetney's story

I grew up in New York City, the Bronx to be exact. Many refer to New York City as the concrete jungle. They say if you can make it in New York City you can make it anywhere. That's because dreams rarely came true where I come from.

At the tender age of 8, I knew I wanted to become a baker and own a bakery/restaurant. I saw food as a unifier. The joy and warmth surrounding the kitchen table was intriguing to me. It was at that moment, I knew I wanted to bring happiness to my family, friends and community through the art and creativity of food and desserts.
At the age of 18 I graduated from pastry school; became a pastry chef and went on to work in various restaurants throughout the tri-state area. But, there was still something missing. My dream and passion had not been fulfilled. I was pastry chef working in locations that I did not own. Determined to accomplish my little girl dream, I established my business.

Today, I proudly say, I am closer to fully fulfilling my little girl dream. My business is established. It brings me great joy to own and operate a brand which humbly serves my family, friends and community through the artistry of cakes and sweet confections.
