A loan helped a member to buy bananas, mangoes, plums, and oranges, which will strengthen her initial capital.

Afya Group's story

Esta is a customer of the Hekima MFI and the chairperson of the "Afya" village group. She is married, 58 years old and mother of nine children who are all in school; her partner is unemployed.

She is a fruit and vegetable seller, having started this business six years ago with start-up funds received from the Hekima programme to support her business; over the course of this she has gradually evolved. With this new loan, she will source bananas, mangoes, plums, and oranges, which will strengthen her initial capital. The challenge of her business is fruit rotting.

She would like her children to continue studying and she would like to build a house. Finally, she would like to thank Hekima and its partners for supporting non-bankable business owners in this global crisis related to COVID-19. The photo is only of the leader of the group because of COVID-19 in respect of social distancing measures.

In this group: Katuve, Therese, Esta, Venacia, Jacqueline, Julienne, Alexandrine, Josiana, Felicite, Stephano, Chance, Riziki, Valeria, Kanyere, Nsengiyumva, Mwanyakabingo, Anastasie, Félicien, Jeanette, Sandra, Salama
