A loan helped a member to buy new styles of shoes wholesale.

Nueva Concepcion Group's story

Many of the 32,000 neglected women who participate in Friendship Bridge's loan, training, and health services program called "Microcrédito Plus" have learned to start their own business. Sometimes, this is because they are the only source of support for their families, and other times because they work with their husbands to start a family business.

This is the case with Flor, age 39, who doesn't have any formal education, but 7 years ago she and her husband decided to start a business. The couple sells girls' and women's shoes door-to-door in their community and nearby areas. She is the mother of 4 children over the age of 6 to whom she has provided primary and secondary education. Flor would like the Kiva lenders to finance this second loan. She plans to purchase new styles of shoes.

There are 8 women in this communal bank from Friendship Bridge, named “Nueva Concepcion," which is located on the southern coast of Guatemala. These women are neighbors and look forward to the monthly meetings, when they make loan payments and then participate in training that is essential for their success. They learn about business management and aspects of three other themes, such as health, family, and women.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for the important role you play in the women's lives!
