A loan helped me restart my business after a seven-year hiatus.

Louis's story

I grew up in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh, and from a young age have been passionate about making food with fresh, high-quality ingredients. I’ve honed that passion by cooking foods steeped in tradition yet with a personal and creative touch.

Over the years, as I learned to cook for myself, I also learned how valuable and important cooking for others is. I have embarked upon many food adventures, both big and small, like catering weddings for friends and hosting countless dinner parties. Nothing seems so essential to building and strengthening the community as cooking and eating together.

One of those food adventures turned into the first version of this business nine years ago. At the time, I was obsessed with baking pies from scratch and baked a pie every week for two years. At that time, a friend and I discussed starting a food business. Enough of our friends told me my pies were so good that I could easily sell them, and so we embarked on a pie venture, which was very successful.

Yet that adventure was more of an experiment than a committed decision; we were trying out whether people would like what we made, and whether we enjoyed running a business. After two years, my business partner decided to move on to a different career, and I decided I wanted to explore the world more through travel before settling down in one place.

I’ve now returned from those adventures, and am ready to fully commit to running the business. Having run this business once before, I know that there is a strong market for my product, and I am excited to rejoin the food community of Pittsburgh.
