A loan helped a member to sell tortillas.

La Estrella Group's story

These are the members of La Estrella group, a community association of Pro Mujer in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. The majority are women who are dedicated to commerce and manage their various independent businesses such as grocery stores, food, clothing, and footwear sales.

Zenelia Del Carmen (the fourth from right to left wearing a green dress), one of the outstanding members, is 31 years old. She is a single mother with two school-age children. She starts the day very early in order to produce the tortillas that feed the community. Her main goal is that her children be successful. While she weaves her hopes and dreams, she needs financing to buy several quintals of wholesale corn and firewood for her business.
