A loan helped a member to gain access to cost-efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for maize cultivation.

Hellen's Group's story

This season is not the first one that Hellen is working alongside One Acre Fund. She has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2019 and, although she is the only person featured in the above picture, she is actually representing her group of 20 farmers in Matete District, Kenya.

Hellen is often described by her community as a very friendly person and decided to be the one to represent her group because she was just proposed by the team. Like many of her fellow farmers, Hellen decided she wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community in order to make more farmer friends in her community and hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to buy chickens.

This loan will not only help Hellen but the whole group, which will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 5 acres of land.

In this group: Hellen, Adylyne, Camilla, Ruth, Beatrice, Victor, Margaret, Agineda, Houston, Ruth, Nechesa, Festus, Joice, Lucy, Vitalis, Gester, Jafred, Rodah, Masitsa Mohammed, Iminza Chavanji

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
