A loan helped a young entrepreneur purchase the equipment necessary to make his hydroponic farm become real.

Zackary's story

I grew up in Leesburg, Virginia playing every sport under the sun as a kid. I played basketball, soccer, football, and eventually Rugby, just to name a few. When I wasn't playing sports, I was exploring the woods with my friends building tee-pees doing what outdoorsy kids do. I attended Virginia Tech studying Finance and Real estate. After college, I went to join my family business in real estate investing and construction. Here I learned all of the ins and outs of residential construction and creative financing to secure deals. I became superintendent and honed my skills as a leader and team manager. But I always had a passion for something more down-to-earth.

Since I can remember my family had always had a garden and both of my parents had exceptionally green thumbs. At a young age, I was introduced to plant care and gardening. Ever since I sprouted my first bean seed, I was fascinated by how a tiny seed could turn into a huge, tasty plant!

Fast forward to now, I am ready to go out on my own and pursue my true passion for cultivating delicious vegetables. I already have a small version of what my farm will become so I have learned the ropes of the vertical farm system.

Now I am ready to expand so that I can feed my local community. The average travel distance for a head of lettuce from harvest to your plate is around 2,000 miles. It is my mission to shrink that to 10 miles to help reduce trucking emissions and provide the freshest possible produce to my neighbors. There is a massive "eat local" movement in my area so I know my product will sell. With your help, I can expand!
