A loan helped us upgrade our equipment, grow our business, and teach photo skills to local youth.

Darwin's story

Growing up I was told that success looked like graduating from high school, going to a university, and getting a good job. When that did not happen in this order for me I immediately felt like a failure. I eventually ended up joining the Army where I served in Germany, Afghanistan, and Georgia. After getting injured, I medically separated in 2014.

After getting out of the military I felt a void. I didn't know what I was going to do that gave the same sense of purpose that I had as a Soldier. I worked a few different jobs, working my way up the promotional ladder. During this time, I heard the saying "If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life." From that day forward I was determined to find that something that I love to do. When the pandemic hit in 2020 I was working for a nonprofit organization and really enjoyed it. I was furloughed and eventually laid off from that job. I then decided to turn what I love into what I do for the rest of my life.

In 2020 In Focus Productions was born. Using savings and investments I got everything that we needed to get started. On top of doing what I love, I have been able to show my children (and another middle/high school children what it looks like to take your dream and turn it into reality, while also creating other opportunities for youth in the community. In Focus Productions is a combination of a dream brought to life, an opportunity seized in a trying time, a family company, and more. One thing it never will be is work because I love what I do.
