A loan helped our autistic-owned business open our first brick-and-mortar location and foster a community space.

Nicholas's story

When I was growing up, in the 90s, a cartoon and video game created by an autistic man named Satoshi was introduced to the world and has since gone on to hold its position as the largest IP in the world. That idea was Pokémon. That same decade, two other major trading card games were created. Magic: The Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh!. I began playing at tournaments at 9 years old and continued doing so ever since. I got very serious about Magic, and won a spot on the Pro Tour in 2012, along with a trip to Barcelona, Spain where it took place. I kept playing tabletop games, and when I met my fiancé and stepson I started seeing gaming through a new lens. I saw that games are not only a great competitive and social activity, but also a powerful tool to teach some kids math, reading, logic, and many more important skills while having fun. And it was great for bonding and getting to know people better.

When we left Utah in 2020, we decided to chase our dream after some quality therapy and vocational rehab due to the struggles of being an autistic adult, and with help from Stefanie from Dalgar Communications, my last year has been spent establishing our online sales presence and writing out plans and projections for a successful tabletop gaming store where I can be a mentor to others like me, and bring people together to have fun, make friends, and grow.
