A loan helped us expand and offer more clients back-office support services.

Kabeyia's story

In 2016 I was unexpectedly laid off from a job that I had planned to retire from, along with several other colleagues. As a single mother of 3 young men, (one of whom I adopted) I knew that I needed to either find employment or step out on faith to start my own business. Soon after, I was awarded a contract with a non-profit organization to take over their Accounting, Human Resources, and Admin needs. After 6 months, I finalized another contract to work with a religious organization. And in a year's time, I picked up 2 more contracts. I was very grateful for the word-of-mouth recommendations my clients were making - it let me know they were pleased with my service but that they trusted I could assist others in need with my services!

Initially, after I was laid off, I almost felt hopeless wondering where I would find good employment. With some prayer and reflection, I knew that I needed to make a tough decision to start my own business.

I've applied to Kiva in the past and the growth my business has experienced as a result has been tremendous. As the business scales, we've discovered that we need a more hands-on deck! We are coming back for another campaign asking you all to support us one more time!

I look to continue to work with my clients, expand and leave a legacy for my 3 young men. The hardest step is the one you can't see, and starting out I wasn't sure if there was a market for a small business such as mine. As I grow and expand I hope to inspire someone else to take a leap of faith and start the business they've always dreamed of!
