A loan helped restaurant to overcome the financial challenge posed by Covid-19 crisis.

Garane's story

My name is Garane Saban, born in Kenya in 1995. My family and I lived in the camp for years where life was a difficulty! This was a moment of the beginning of problems for my family. Living without financial stable, in a refugee camp was extremely difficult for my family and me. Likely, my family and I were able to resettle in the US.

When we arrived in the US, although we faced several challenges, the biggest of all was financial stability. We first settled in Georgia and growing up, I can remember my mother's struggles to pay the rent, not to mention the electricity and phone bills. We could not afford to purchase a car or meet our basic needs! This was the moment that I thought of establishing a business in the future.

After school, I started working as a Direct Support Professional (DSP). I still recall that my family, and I struggled and still did not meet our financial independence. In the precursor of coronavirus, I initiated obtaining licensing for my business, SABAN’S CUISINE, and my goal was to be financially free and build a new legacy for my family. , I then started owning a business, and I named (SABAN’S) after my grandfather to respect and honor the family name.

Since I established this business, the beginning of the business was great and generated revenues. In the beginning, the business revenue was able to cover the expenses such as lease payments, electricity, internet, and phone bills. Inventories groceries. In the Coronavirus pandemic, business revenue has substantially declined! The business operations certainly collapsed; Unable to pay/order new inventories. My dream of becoming financially free became impossible.
