After spending many years hosting family and friends being the designated cook the opportunity presented itself for us to open a restaurant and we didn’t hesitate. Opening a restaurant would help set the tone for Terrence’s future goals of opening a sports bar.
Both using our passion for good food and our extensive customer service experience we took a leap and opened Skillet2Plate! We are extremely grateful to be on this journey especially with our children (24-8). We are looking forward to constantly growing with our community.

Hello, we are Terrence and Lauren. We are the owners of Skillet2plate Soul Bistro Restaurant located in York Pa. Our award-winning Soul food restaurant services a diverse community. Our patrons include nationalities ranging from Amish to Korean from African American to Hispanic and we make everyone feel at home. We, unfortunately, opened three weeks right before Covid struck. This was a tough and next to impossible task to survive. With time we lost all employees. Thanks to the Grace of God and our children working their butts off we've been able to maintain.
My husband and I come from a hard-working background. I spent fifteen years in the nursing field and him 20 yrs in warehousing management. With 5 children we relocated from Philadelphia nine years ago for a lifestyle change for our family. We knew stepping out on our own would be difficult but with the obstacles of Covid and soaring prices of goods, it's been almost unbearable to maintain a restaurant. Some bumps and bruises later and love from the York community and here we are.
Now we are embarking on the next step in our journey and we need your help. We are presently relocating to the main street location West Philadelphia. This is a beautiful downtown, by the water, newly developed location. This new location will be the first of its kind for a black-owned restaurant of this magnitude in the downtown area of York City.
Also, our new location will bring much-needed foot traffic and visibility to our establishment.
We are in desperate need of some items. We would use our funds for seating an outdoor dining area and some much-needed cooking upgrades such as deep fryers and a 4 burner countertop stove.

Flexible: any funds raised within 30 days will be passed along to the Lending Partner facilitating the loan and they will come up with other sources of funding to cover the rest of the loan amount.
What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
