A loan helped to expand her business by securing more cash and float in order to meet her customers' needs.

Deophister's story

Deophister is a 34-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and four children in Kasama district in Zambia. She owns a mobile-money business.

With her first Kiva loan, Deophister replenished her inventory which increased her sales, and now her business is thriving. Deophister is requesting another loan in order to expand her business by securing more cash and float in order to meet her customers' needs. She plans to use the profit she earns to support her family.

Deophister will repay the ‘social interest’ on her second loan by volunteering three hours per week as a CAMFED Learner Guide. This includes facilitating classes from CAMFED’s ‘My Better World’ program with students at her local secondary school, helping to build children’s self-esteem and motivating them to remain in school.

This loan is special because:

It helps borrowers withstand negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
