A loan helped a female-founded, St. Louis-based tech start-up finalize development and grow our user base.

Riley's story

Allison and I met in 2018 teaching high school in south city St. Louis. She had just filed for divorce and was raising two small children. Despite our seven-year age difference, we both found ourselves trying to navigate the online dating world, which led to an instant bond. We became increasingly aggravated by the lack of genuine connection, wasted time, and overall inefficiencies in the existing online dating platforms. We wanted a product that would allow us to cut out all of the messaging and eliminate the build-up of the first date.

On a run in early 2020, Allison had the idea to create a dating app that facilitated in-person meetings at local small businesses. Not only would this solution mitigate all of the frustrations in the online dating platforms, but it would also allow users to invest in the local economy while exploring fun, new spots. Both Allison and I transplant to St. Louis, but this city immediately captured our hearts, and we wanted to create a solution that was community-centered and promoted involvement in this town that we love. Thus began the journey of Approach. We began drafting business plans and building a team at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. We used the extra time at home to learn all about the entrepreneurial world and the ins and outs of building a start-up. We nailed down an awesome team of developers, formed a C-Corporation, hired some lawyers, and took off. We now have a product to market, and we need additional funding to finalize product development and put our energy towards a strong user acquisition campaign.
