A loan helped for a single mom to buy quality farming inputs such as good, certified seeds and fertilizers to improve her farming.

Jackline's story

Jackline has experienced hardship but has always emerged victorious through all those adversities. Jackline lives in the Kapsabet area of Kenya. She is a single mother, who is blessed with three children, who are her greatest motivation. She perseveres because she wants to provide a better future for them.

Jackline is a mixed farmer, who is faced with the challenge of high prices for farm inputs. Access to modern, quality seed and fertilizer is the key ingredient for agricultural success. However, in Kenya, a developing and Third World country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been significant improvement in input availability.

Jackline is requesting a loan to buy farm inputs such as certified seed and nutrient rich fertilizer. Your loan will enable her to improve her production through the use of quality farm inputs. This intervention will help her meet the increasing demand for food in the market and, in the process, generate more income to repay the loan debt and improve her family's quality of life, including educating her children. She also hopes to improve the conditions of her household.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
