A loan helped to buy taro roots and banana tubes to plant, plus chemicals, a backpack sprayer and a chainsaw.

Auro's story

Auro is 52 years old, widowed and a mother of nine children. For the past four years she has farmed and sold taro and bananas in her community to earn a living. She works very hard to please her customers with her fresh produce, as she comes from a family in which no one else works to earn a living. She even delivers her produce to market by bus. Only her business helps support her family’s needs.

Auro thinks she would earn more income if she planted more banana and taro, but in order to do this she needs a loan to buy taro roots and banana tubes to plant, plus chemicals, a backpack sprayer and a chainsaw. Her dream is to one day see her family enjoying a great living standard.

Auro became a member of SPBD in 2018 to seek financing for her farm. Lenders’ support will be a big help for her and her family in developing a better life.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
