A loan helped autistic children receive behavioral services in a safe and comfortable environment.

Julie's story

From an early age, I was drawn to helping others. I attended Westminster College in PA studying Early Childhood Education and Special Education, where I earned my bachelor's degree, then worked in the psychiatric rehabilitation field until finding a position working with children with autism. As I began practicing Applied Behavior Analysis with this position, I learned of my love of the field, as it allowed me to advocate for autistic individuals, teach children, and support families. At this time, I enrolled in a graduate program at Cairn University studying Applied Behavior Analysis and began supervising clinical hours to qualify for board certification following my degree. I started Hummingbird ABA Therapy in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, shortly before learning of my own son's autism diagnosis. We are currently the only provider of Applied Behavior Analysis services in Centre County, PA. In the past year, I've grown my small start-up company from a solo provider to a small team of amazing behavior technicians and behavior analysts, and a large waitlist that keeps growing. In order to meet the growing needs of more families in the area, I am passionate about providing a safe ABA Center where autistic children can come to learn and grow, receive a variety of therapies, and allow families to connect and feel supported as they navigate their child's needs.

This loan is special because:
