A loan helped a woman-owned business obtain the equipment needed for full operation.

Nina's story

During the spring of 2021, an old friend asked me to join his mission in starting a popcorn business. With no clue of what I was getting myself into in the popcorn space, I agreed to come on board. I thought it would be interesting to learn about popcorn and understand what motivates customers (including myself) to buy this healthy treat that's been around for centuries and continues to do well. So, in May 2021 I joined his team as a sales operation’s manager, hiring manager, web developer, and consultant for his new popcorn shop in Waukegan, Illinois. The second reason I came on board, I've always been the type of person to help in any way I can when it comes to making a difference in our community.

Learning so much about popcorn drew a level of excitement and enthusiasm for me because it was really fun! from learning how it changes from a simple popcorn seed to a fluffy white popcorn, how it is manufactured, down to creating these amazing tasteful treats. After, witnessing such an incredible response from the community and the joy it brought I drew an even deeper passion for the business and decided I would create and build my very own family popcorn shop.
