My name is Rosie and I am the Founder/Creative Director behind Whimsical Charm. From a young age, I watched my mother sew. She would hand bead a sister's wedding dress than another sister's quinceñera dress and this was my life growing up.
My mom taught me how to sew by hand and I picked up the skill at the early age of seven. My father was self-employed and both parents were always working hard to provide for the household. Coming from a creative and entrepreneurial household my upbringing led me to pursue a career in Fashion Design.
After attending the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, I worked as a technical designer for several companies including Guess?, Inc., Vince, and Joie. I was able to gain invaluable industry experience in everything from contemporary to bridal, lifestyle to children’s wear, and textiles to threads.
As an entrepreneur, mentor, and single mom, I lead by inspiration and design from the heart. My love and passion are embedded into everything I create and my mission is to keep the world warm one baby at a time by providing a line of uniquely embroidered baby blankets, fun robes, and quality apparel all locally made in the USA.
I'm very fortunate that my upbringing also taught me how giving back is part of the cycle of life. I use my platform to create a safe, fun, and educational working environment for youth in underserved disadvantaged communities. I provide working skills in all aspects of retail, wholesale, and trade. I donate to the Jewish Family Service of San Diego who provides assistance to displaced children and families at the US-Mexico border. I am grateful to have a brand with a purpose that allows my daughter to work by my side.

Whimsical Charm is a line of uniquely handmade and personalized embroidered baby blankets, fun robes, and quality apparel designed for parents who desire to provide their children with warmth, comfort, and style all locally made in the USA. We are based in Los Angeles, CA., and recently celebrated 10 years in business.
What moved me to start my own business was a happy accident.
After an unsuccessful attempt to find a cute, high-quality, and purposeful baby blanket as a gift for a very good friend, I decided to make one exclusively for her. It was such a hit at the baby shower but it wasn't until years later that I started thinking about baby blankets as a possible business.
After 12 years of working for others in the fashion industry, I launched Whimsical Charm and sold my first blanket in 2013.
After a happy launch, I was confronted with the challenge of financing my business. I had to keep my full-time job, work on weekends and evenings and miss out on family events in order to finance my business. As a single mom with a family-oriented household, this was very difficult.
Regardless of the challenges, and sacrifices, I kept pushing forward to create a brand that would not only produce a unique gift but would ultimately provide a warm, comfy, and soft baby blanket that would allow babies to feel comforted as if they were being hugged by their parents.
Throughout the years I have received countless comments that my brand is a favorite of their child and that makes all of the blood, sweat, and tears it took me to create my brand well worth it!
I'm looking forward to continuing to keep the world warm one baby at a time with the expansion of my collection.
What is the purpose of this loan?
The purpose of this loan is to help stabilize my business as I expand and grow into new territories. It will establish working capital as I have always self-funded my business. I will be able to purchase fabrics, trims, threads, hire a pattern maker, a sample sewer and maintain the production within my local community in Southern California. I will be able to fill my store shelves including my mobile sites during the Fall/Winter 2021 season. This will allow me to create jobs and hire cyclical staff members including three youth from underserved disadvantaged communities. These resources will assist in creating a happy and healthy environment for everyone involved while creating and maintaining an ongoing network of creatives.

"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
