A loan helped to buy silk thread, colored dyes and materials for weaving silk cloth.

Thongmee's story

Thongmee is a married woman who lives with her husband in a Kui community in Surin Province, Northeast Thailand. Her family earns a living primarily through rice farming and weaving and selling silk cloth.

In 2011, Thongmee began weaving silk cloth to sell. Her grandmother taught her how and inspired her since she was young to weave. She showed her how to make different textures on silk garments and how to dye silk. At that time, Thongmee sought a loan to invest in the occupation, so she applied for a Kiva loan to buy startup materials like silk thread, dye colors and materials for weaving silk cloth. Weaving silk is a wonderful skill and it provides a decent income for her family.

This loan will enable Thongmee to purchase materials for weaving beautiful silk clothes, while also assisting local entrepreneurs in expanding their businesses. She desires to own a shop selling silk clothes in the future.

This loan is special because:

It helps women living in rural areas improve financial literacy and invest in their businesses.
