A loan helped to buy breeding supplies that will help support her sustainable trout aquarium.


María Helena's story

María Helena is a senior agriculturist from Silvia, Cauca and part of the Guambianos indigenous community. She has lived in the region for over 50 years, gathering immense knowledge in diverse agricultural activities which include onion harvesting, milk production, etc. Currently, she is focusing on raising trout aquarium which she expects to grow in the next few years. Coming from a traditional farming background, María Helena has developed sustainable tools that maintain her ancestral roots in all the production processes.

María Helena currently lives with her husband, son, daughter, son in law and a small grandchild. She supports the family, economically. Her eldest son has an advance disability which requires permanent attention. Despite the hardship, María Helena and her family have been able to maintain a prosperous agricultural business within their landsite. A loan of 2,326,223 COP will help María Helena in purchasing new tools and materials to sustain and increase trout production.
