A loan helped to buy more charcoal to sell.

Ellen's story

Ellen is a 58-year-old businesswoman. She is married and blessed with 5 children. They are all grown up and live on their own.

Ellen is a high school graduate. She deals in a business selling charcoal by plastic bags. For the past 31 years, she has won a lot of customers to patronize her business.

She started the business with her own savings and learned how to sell from her mother.

Ellen sells Monday through Saturday. She applied for a Kiva loan to buy more charcoal to sell to her good clients. She plans to use the profits generated from her business to help her family at home.

She likes her business because sales are profitable. Ellen wishes to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
