Maria Juliana and Israel are members of Cerro Miguel Farmers Group #1, living in Cerro Miguel in rural Panama. They're both farmers and founding members of the newly formed, community-owned bank.
They're planting lettuce, cilantro and culantro (a popular Panamanian variety of cilantro). They transport and commercialize their produce by horse, since their community is far from the main roads and urban areas. The local demand for their products has increased and they're both very excited to increase their farming production to provide better opportunities for their families.
The group is applying for its first Kiva loan to plant more lettuce, culantro and cilantro. With these funds, Maria Juliana and Israel will buy seeds, equipment and pay temporary workers from their community. Thank you for contributing to the growth of microenterprises in rural areas that have been historically excluded from basic financial services.
