A loan helped to pay for a drum of benzene fuel to stock up her storage unit and increase her income.

Suzanne's story

Suzanne lives in a village which is located 8 kilometres out of Port Vila city, Vanuatu. Her community is large, and the main industry is tourism. Due to COVID-19, it has been a little tough for one to earn an income; therefore locals have turned to agriculture for food and income.

Suzanne is 36 years old and married to a pastor, who is a loving and caring husband. She has four children who are aged 14, 7, 4 and 2. The three eldest are in school but not the youngest. She lives with her family in their own shanty home.

Suzanne has requested a loan to help her pay for a drum of benzene fuel to stock up her storage unit to increase her income. She wants to help her village by providing this fuel as it is in high demand. With her earned profits, she will pay for her children's school fees so they can get a good education for a brighter future.

Suzanne has a small unit she is renting out to tenants and she also sells Vodafone and Digicel credit for extra income. She dreams of becoming a tailor in the near future, as she is very much interested in it. This will bring a huge income to support her family.

This is Suzanne's second loan with SPBD Vanuatu. She faithfully repaid her first loan on time. Through her loans, Suzanne feels empowered to expand her business to continue supporting her children's future.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
