Benkadi I Group's story

The ten members of the group "Benkadi I" are married women averaging 39 years of age and four children.  They live for the most part in polygamous families in Wobougou, a village in Dioïla prefecture, Koulikoro region (2nd administrative region of the Republic of Mali).  The group members are collaborating with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso with the goal of being better able to organize their work when winter begins.  Their crops include rice, pearl millet, peanuts, and beans.  The group members are on their second farm loan.  The previous loan was repaid.

With the new loan, Ms. Alimata T., the group's president, intends to buy supplies and sundry equipment and to cover the cost of plowing for maintaining about 1.5 hectares of peanuts and beans.  After the harvests, the produce is sold to a customer base composed of consumers and retailers in the cities of Dioïla and Massigui.

The group members plan on making an average profit of about 70,000 francs CFA each planting season.  The women of this group put all their hope into the smooth progress of the winter planting effort.

In this group: Alimata, Maïmouna Sidy, Assoun, Korotoumou, Aminata, Minata, Satou, Koumba, Kadia, Korotoumou
