Business Description
We are a low-country inspired full service restaurant in Warren, RI (the smallest town in the smallest state!), serving lunch and dinner with a focus on local sourcing and intentional service. We operate out of a storefront downtown, where Main Street and the waterfront connect. My fiancé and I were presented with the opportunity to open this business when the previous restaurant that had been a community staple closed during COVID. My fiancé has cooked his whole career, and I have always been trained and passionate about service and operations, so we found it to be a perfect fit to jump in and support the local community of producers and eaters.
What is the purpose of this loan?
We opened the restaurant in May 2021 as a take out and delivery only operations. Shortly thereafter, Rhode Island lifted capacity restrictions and we were able to scrape together enough tables and chairs that were left over to make a beautiful garden patio for outside seating, however the capacity is limited. These funds will allow us to purchase table tops and chairs (locally made) needed to reopen the inside dining room and increase capacity from 20 guests to 40 guests. In addition, we need to invest in payroll for job creation in order to hire a few key staff members to support the increased capacity which we offer shared tip wages for both front of house and back of house to ensure a more equitable wage level for all employees. The loan will directly impact our ability to achieve greater revenue given the increased capacity in staff and seats. This in turn, will also trickle down to the dozen local vegetable, meat, and dairy farms we utilize on our menu.

We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
