Kadiatu K (fifth from left with her children, Fatu [being held] and Demba [bottom right]), the featured borrower of Kadiatu's Female Farmers Group, would like to thank all the Kiva lenders for their third loan. It enabled the group to become an economic pillar in their community and to participate in a new program where each borrower receives farm equipment services on loan in exchange for interest-free repayment in raw rice at the time of harvest.
The group is now making an important contribution to their community's food security, and each individual member is now engaging at least one assistant in their farming (creating new employment).
Imported rice prices are dramatically increasing in Sierra Leone due to the COVID19 pandemic, which has had the impact of improving the local market for these farmers. The group therefore wishes to continue expanding their activities with a new loan to take advantage of better prices and address the need for local food production, which is now more urgent than ever.
