A loan helped to buy pandanus and mulberry for her weaving and tapa making business, and to also help with some family matters.

Siuaki's story

Siuaki is 54 years of age. She is a mother of six children and a grandmother of eight grandchildren. Siuaki is married to a farmer and they live in their own home, with two of her children remaining unmarried. Both of her unmarried children are still in tertiary-level education.

Siuaki is the breadwinner for her family. She is currently running a weaving and tapa making business to support her family financially. She has the experience and skills in doing this business for about ten years. Her business is very competitive in the market, not only locally but with overseas buyers as well.

Siuaki joins a group of women in their village in weaving and making tapa. They weave the mats and decorate them to be more fancy and more beautiful to attract the buyers. Each member has their own turn every three to four weeks. Siuaki can only make one mat and two tapa on her turn each month.

Siuaki now has less raw materials to supply the weavings and tapa to meet the demand of her buyers. She is planning to use this loan to buy more pandanus and decorative materials, and also hire two more labourers to help in the business.

She believes this loan will much help her overcome her business challenges. Siuaki has the vision to extend her business and help her two children finish their education and find a better future.
