A loan helped meet the growing need for self-care and proper hair hygiene for the community.

Barbara's story

I grew up in Atlanta Georgia and my family later relocated to Chicago Illinois for most of my adult life. It was a great experience growing up in a large family, with mostly girls so I learned very early on how to braid and style hair so that I could do all my sister’s hair, which helped cut the cost of going to the hair salon for our parents. Braiding and styling hair was a natural experience for me, and I enjoyed how happy my siblings looked each time I braided and styled their hair for school the next morning. I became known as the hairstylist in the family, and it became my passion. After high school, I went to beauty school to become a licensed cosmetologist. I was a professional hair braider and stylist for eight years. My curiosity about the world led me to further my education and receive my bachelor’s degree in mathematics which allowed me to relocate from Chicago Illinois and work as a Senior Consultant in a large Consulting Firm in the Washington D.C. Metro area for over four years. I recently relocated back to Chicago to pursue my passion.

My passion for hair braiding and styling has been consistent in my life. After my experience as a professional hair braider and stylist to thousands of women over eight years, witnessing the effect on women’s confidence due to hair hygiene, I decided to answer the call of the growing need for hair care products that work, easy to use, and are affordable. My goal is to empower women to care for their hair and feel beautiful. This led me to create a multicultural shampoo and conditioner brand that every woman can use and feel their absolute best.
