Saltanat's story

Saltanat S. was born in the north of Kyrgyzstan. She is 35 years old. She was born into a low-income family and after the divorce of her parents, she grew up at her grandmother’s house. Saltanat graduated from secondary school, but could not continue her studies because she had to help her grandmother around the house. She milked cows, pastured the cattle and cultivated land.

Saltanat got married at the age of 22 and soon she gave birth to a son. After an unfortunate family life and the death of her grandmother, she moved to Kara-Balta town, near the capital city of Bishkek. In order to get income, Saltanat decided to start up her own business. Using the capital of 10,000 KES, she bought a supply of electrical appliances to resell, which she sold at a local market. Her start as an entrepreneur was successful due to her strong efforts.

She managed to multiply her investments and raised her circulating capital to 70,000 KES. In 2004, Saltanat got married in second time and gave birth to two sons. One son is now four years old and the second is a breast-fed infant.

Saltanat plans to use the loan of 50,000 KES to broaden her business by expanding the range of products she sells. With the revenue from this investment, she plans to open one more selling place at the market. Speaking of her plans for the future, she dreams of buying a minivan.
