Housekeepers throughout the world share a common chore of keeping their homes clean and also having personal care products on hand for themselves and their families. Yasmin, a 24-year-old, married mother of two children (6,and 10) sells both of these products.
With only two years of formal education, she has been successful and now needs to resupply her inventory. She is requesting her 2nd Kiva loan to buy a variety of personal care and cleaning products. Some of her income will be earmarked for the education of her children.
Yasmin, along with 10 other women, lives in the department/state of Quetzaltenango. They are members of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “San Isidro”. The ladies have food and clothing businesses. Topics for the monthly education and health care sessions, the backbone of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, are centered around four topics: women, family, health, and business. These sessions are critical for personal development and increased self esteem, as well as improved business outcomes. Another benefit of the program is bi-monthly visits from a nurse who offers all kinds of services, exams and consults.
