A loan helped to provide working capital for a rural community-owned and women-led bank.

La Cantera Community-Owned Bank's story

La Cantera is a small and rural community that is mostly made up of farmers. The main economic activities in La Cantera are farming, chicken raising, and pig raising.

La Cantera Community-Owned Bank Colono started in 2021 and it is a small, women-led financial institution that provides the members of the community with the ability to have savings, take out small loans, and have access to financial literacy. A lot of members in this community are financially excluded from more traditional financial institutions, but the Community-Owned Bank provides these members with a chance at financial inclusion in their own community. The members are very industrious and committed to the growth of the rural bank since it has given them the opportunity to improve their quality of life.

By giving a loan to the Community-Owed Bank of La Cantera Community-Owned Bank, you are providing access to financial services to farming families and creating jobs during the crucial planting season.

Today, they have requested their first Kiva loan to provide working capital for agricultural production for 8 of its entrepreneurial members.

This community bank counts on regular monitoring and training from Global Brigades staff, guaranteeing transparency, empowerment, and financial inclusion for the inhabitants of La Cantera.
