A loan helped an SBA award-winning, immigrant-led African grocery store in Illinois purchase new kitchen equipment.

Memoire's story

My name is Memoire. I immigrated from the Democratic Republic of Congo to the United States in 2011. I have a bachelor’s degree in commerce from D.R. Congo. Learned English as a second language while there, and worked as a teller at a bank. Starting in 2012 in the U.S., I worked at manufacturing companies for three years and then secured a new job at the U.S. Postal Service in 2015.

This is also the same year that I started my business, the Best of Africa’s Food Store, with my wife Lisette, who is also an immigrant from D.R. Congo. I believe that people should never give up on things they believe are right for them and for the future generation. I also believe that being honest is the best thing to do, even if isn’t to your advantage, to be honest at the time.

This loan is special because:

It helps this business continue to grow.
