Farmers' Cooperative Of El Porvenir De Santa Rosa's story

Meet the Farmers' Cooperative Of El Porvenir De Santa Rosa!

It was founded in 2003 by its community-oriented founders. Today it counts with 13 hard-working and dedicated cooperative members (7 men and 6 women). This association was born to provide financial services and support the farmers from the rural community of Santa Rosa, rural Honduras; which has been historically excluded from basic financial services until the foundation of this community-owned cooperative.

The members dedicate to small-scale agriculture, mainly the production of beans and corn that provides the economic resources to sustain the entire town of Santa Rosa. Each family member makes a living with a small crop that is cultivated with the support of fellow cooperative members.

Today, they are asking for their first Kiva loan to purchase supplies and basic equipment to plant corn and beans. The planting season starts in May and the farmers of this cooperative are very motivated and looking forward to starting to prepare their lands for this year's harvest.
