My name is Ann-Marie. My co-founder, Joan, and I are both immigrants from Jamaica who are passionate about delivering care to the elderly. When I moved to the U.S. in 2001, I began working at an assisted living facility where I had the pleasure of meeting Joan. Given both of our experiences of being caretakers for our aging parents and loved ones, we found common ground in the work we did and the impact we were able to make on a daily basis. Joan obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification and gained experience on the managerial side of assisted living care while I continued to strengthen my skill sets in care delivery as a Med Tech and Certified Nursing Assistant.
Over the course of the last 20 years, we have continued to build relationships with organizations and families in the metro Atlanta area and have earned a reputation of delivering high-quality, compassionate care to those in need.

Business Description
Joan and I have over 50 years of combined experience providing care to the elderly. While working in assisted living facilities across the Atlanta area, we saw that there was a need for a more affordable level of care to be provided to the elderly. We also were the primary caregivers for our aging parents before they passed. We started a home health agency to continue helping individuals with their activities of daily living (ADL) and have been successful with the building over the past four years.
Given the success of that business and a demonstrated need from our clients, Joan and I decided to purchase a home in 2019 with the goal of turning it into a personal care home business in Tucker, GA: Vision Senior Care Personal Care Home. In this space, we plan to offer a high-quality and affordable alternative to independent and assisted living facilities targeted towards elderly and moderate-income minorities throughout the Metro Atlanta counties.
What is the purpose of this loan?
As we were making the necessary improvements to have the home we purchased be approved as a personal care home in the state of Georgia, COVID disrupted our business model significantly. We quickly needed to determine the safest ways to continue providing care to the clients who needed it. Our contracted staff were concerned for their safety and the possibility of exposing the virus to our clients, our potential clients were nervous about establishing care with new individuals during this time and the process for obtaining approval to begin hosting clients at the new home were delayed due to a strong focus on protecting the community from the virus.
While these factors slowed our business, our operating expenses and the need to finish the remodeling/coding process continued. We needed to use the funds we planned on using to complete remodeling to support our contracts and ensure that there was continued care delivered to our clients. This loan will help us to complete the remodeling process to begin housing our first clients in the personal care home. We will need to install fencing to ensure privacy and safety for our clients, landscape the property to ensure that our residents are able to enjoy a beautiful backyard with grass and flowers that improve their well-being, and market our new facility to individuals who need it.
These funds will help us ensure that the property is in the best condition possible for our residents to truly create a home away from home and ensure that our clients transition well into their new environments.

What is the disbursed date?
In the case of partner loans, many of our Lending Partners choose to disburse loan funds before the loan request is posted on Kiva. We allow pre-disbursal because it ensures that the funds reach the borrower as soon as they are needed. Loan funds from Kiva lenders then go to backfill that amount and as a lender you assume the risk of the loan. By doing this, our Lending Partners assume the risk that, if the loan isn't funded by lenders, they will have to fund the loan without any funds from Kiva.
If a partner loan is not pre-disbursed, it will be listed on Kiva with an expected "post-disbursed" date. What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
