A loan helped to re-open a fruit and vegetable store in the city, supporting the indigenous farmers of her community.

Mercedita's story

Meet Mercedita!

Mercedita is from the indigenous community of Puerto Lara, but lives in Panama City with her husband.

She dedicates herself to agriculture distribution, selling products like plantain, cassava and cocoyam from her native town in small convenience stores in Panama City. Due to the pandemic, she was forced to suspend her business and suspend her operations.

Today, she is asking for her first Kiva loan to re-open a small agricultural products store in the city. Mercedita closed her business due to the pandemic but with this loan, she would be able to reopen a store to sell fruits and vegetables planted in her community.

In this way, Mercedita also wants to help the farmers in her community that are struggling to market their products due to the travel restrictions implemented by the local government.

Thanks for supporting Mercedita and the indigenous farmers of Puerto Lara.
