I started learning circus at a late age, when I looked for places to learn circus as an adult, most of the places were too serious about building circus performers. I wanted to learn circus to have fun.
Due to the lack of welcoming facilities toward the recreational circus, I decided to open a facility that is about play. I wanted it to be welcoming and inviting to people who want to start learning circus at a late age, and there is no goal to performing, just having fun, meeting people, and sharing skills. As a result of opening the Athletic Playground 12 years ago, many people of various ages call Athletic Playground their second home. Currently what motivates me most about running Athletic Playground is offering people jobs that they love and that is rewarding.

Athletic Playground is a playful training space for all movers, founded in 2008. We are located in Emeryville, California.
We (normally) offer over 100 classes every week across a wide range of movement disciplines, as well as workshops, camps, open play, and community events. We have unique offerings for all ages and experience levels.
Due to Covid19 our offerings are constantly changing and adapting, we are currently offering online classes and limited in-person offerings.
I decided to start the business to offer a space for people to inspire physical play through movement and circus.
What is the purpose of this loan?
The loan will be used toward paying our staff (teachers and admin). This will help us gain more confidence in hiring new staff as we slowly gain more clients again.

Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
