A loan helped a beloved local yoga and dance studio evolve into a movement arts community center!

Laura's story

I've been involved in movement arts since my teenage years in the '80s, starting out with an apprenticeship at the Delia Stewart Dance Company in Houston that grew into a 15-year dance career.

I followed a winding path that leads from dance to fitness competitions to yoga -- culminating in a move to Oakland in 2000, where I discovered acrobatics and trapeze.

Performing transitioned into teaching, igniting a passion to open a multifaceted movement studio in my Temescal neighborhood to host yoga, dance, and strength classes. I opened Flying Studios in 2010 -- and since that time we've built a large and beautiful community.

Now, post-Covid, I'm working on evolving the business into a movement arts community center that provides affordable studio space to local teachers, hosts classes for kids in a creative and nurturing environment, and offers a venue for local artists looking for a space to perform.

Your help will make this vision come true!
