A loan helped to purchase general farm supplies & equipment.

Mataiumu's story

Mataiumu L. is 42 years old. She is married and has 7 children (ages 8 - 25). She owns a business planting, harvesting, and selling a variety of vegetables. Mataiumu has 4 years of experience in this business.

Mataiumu needs a loan of 2000 WST to purchase general farm supplies & equipment. She plans to use the earnings from her business (estimated to be 300 talas or US $125 per week) to financially support immediate members of her family.

In 2007, Mataiumu joined SPBD. This is her 7th loan from SPBD. SPBD's loans are Mataiumu's only access to capital because she was never able to qualify for a loan from traditional banks.

About SPBD
In 2000, Greg Casagrande founded SPBD and since then, it has expanded from the main island of Upolu in Samoa to Savaii, as well as Tonga. SPBD's philosophy of lending is based upon the Grameen Bank lending method.
