A loan helped black, immigrant business owner to provide workforce training.

Deroll's story

Mr. Barrett is the owner and the lead consultant for Wilbar Services, LLC. He has over 15 years of experience working with youth in educational, residential and community settings. Deroll is also the founder and Executive Director of Youth Improvement Services, a community-based nonprofit that provides emergency housing and support services to at-risk youth.

He has used his leadership skills to develop and lead teams for the past 7 years, in providing social development programs to youth. These highly effective programs have catered to up to 400 youth at a time.

Deroll is experienced in leading operations for dormitories, recreation centers, student leadership programs, a child development center, and a Solo Parent program to ensure efficiency.

Deroll has managed a budget of $2 million per year in a federally funded program for at-risk youth. He earned a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of the West Indies. He will use this experience and entrepreneurial ability to make Wilbar Services successful by providing high-quality services to clients and stakeholders.

As a black business owner in Mississippi, I am determined to grow Wilbar Services and give back to the community by training at-risk youth in career technical education fields that will lead to careers. I have worked with at-risk youth for more than 15 years and I would like to continue doing so through government contracting and being a training provider. I am passionate about social justice, education, and building up youth through educational and economic opportunities. I have had limited access to capital and a kiva loan will give me a great start to making this business venture a success.

This loan is special because:
