A loan helped to improve his dairy unit and plant more Napier grass.

Peter's story

Peter is a farmer in the town of Kisii in western Kenya. He is 48 years old and married with six children between the ages of 11 and 25. All his children attend school.

Peter has been farming for the last twenty-five years and produces tea, maize, bananas and coffee which he sells to the local market and to institutions like schools. He depends solely on the income from his farming activities to provide for the basic needs of his family.

Peter has requested this loan of KES 50,000 from Juhudi Kilimo to improve his dairy unit and plant more Napier grass (a type of grass used for grazing) for his dairy cows. This loan will improve his farming and hence earn him more income that will enable him pay school fees for his children and provide for their basic needs.

Peter’s primary challenge has been the lack of good markets, especially for milk and maize, because the prices are low.

Peter is requesting Juhudi to reduce their interest rates to make it affordable to farmers and to increase the size of loans offered.
