A loan helped a member to buy a variety of high-quality multi-color yarns.

Mujeres Divinas Cunen Group's story

Amelia, 22 years old, is a married, intelligent and feisty woman whose trade is weaving typical skirts, also called "cuts". Although she only has had 5 grades of education, she runs the business very well. She is the mother of 2 boys, ages 4 and 5. She has 4 wooden looms and employs 3 people, and together with her husband, they produce an average of 20 cuts per month. Amelia, for her part, is in charge of arranging the threads, which are then placed on the loom to form a beautiful "cut". She is taking her first loan from Kiva to buy a variety of high-quality multicolor yarns. Amelia is sure that with this raw material, she will be able to increase the production of her business for the Easter holiday.

There are 7 Maya K'iche women in the Puente de Amistad Community Bank's Mujeres Divinas Cunen group, who live in the high mountains of the department/state of Quiché. They found a development opportunity in the textile business. These women participate in the Microcredit Plus program (providing loans, education, and health) and learn about administration, health, family and women in monthly meetings. Friendship Bridge, through facilitators, informs Amelia and 32,000 other women about the importance of continuing to take hygiene measures. Having savings will help Amelia get ahead and keep selling her product. She knows better times will come. The children in the photograph are the children of the borrowers, who have authorized their appearance in it.

Thanks, Kiva, for reaching out to women!
