Born on September 17, 1982 in Sikasso, Ms. Fatoumata B. is a divorced mother of two boys. She lives in a large traditional extended family in Médine-Sikasso (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). After having work in many business unsuccessfully, she got introduced five years ago to the business of buying and selling foodstuffs. She operates in front her home in Médine Sikasso, where she is much in demand by her customers for the quality of her products.
To satisfy her burgeoning customer base, Fatoumata decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso about a year ago. She has had an initial loan, which has been repaid. This second loan will enable her to buy the following goods from suppliers in Sikasso but also in Bamako: 38 cases of BRAMALI drinks, 50 packets of NBB drinks, 60 boxes of mineral water, 30 boxes of canned drinks (Malta, Vimto, Ivorio, etc.), 5 boxes of Candia milk, 15 packets of mineral water in pouches, 5 boxes of different cookies, etc. The goods are sold wholesale and retail, for cash or on credit, to a customer base composed of women, men, and youngsters.
With this second loan, Fatoumata envisions making monthly profit of 270,000 that will be used essentially for increase her working capital, helping to cover family expenses, and paying the interest on the loan.
