A loan helped to pay for seeds and gardening tools in order to get a good harvest and increase her income.

Toufabel's story

Toufabel is a 61-year-old mother of five grown-up children. She lost her husband due to an illness back in 2017, so she has been living with most of her children in their own home which is located on the northern side of Efate island. Toufabel's community is quite large, and the main industry is agriculture. Vanuatu relies a lot on agriculture for food and income, and despite the Covid-19 pandemic it has been satisfactory in making an earning from it.

Toufabel has requested a loan to help her purchase seeds and gardening tools which will enable her to get a good harvest that will increase her income. With the revenue earned, she will renovate her home and make an extension to it. Toufabel has been gardening most of her life as she learned it from her parents at a very young age. She has now been in this business for over 40 years. She has been with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd for over a year now, and this is her second loan. She has repaid her previous loan smoothly and on time. Through her loans, Toufabel is inspired to expand her business so she can support herself and her family financially.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
