A loan helped to purchase pot plants and gardening tools in order to better provide for her customers and increase her income.

Netty's story

Netty is 73 years old and has 5 grown up children. She is happily married, and her husband is unemployed. She lives with her husband in their own home, which is located in a village that is roughly a 15 to 20 minutes drive to Port Vila city. Her community is quite large, and the main industry is agriculture.

Vanuatu has been affected by Covid-19, losing 70% of its employment, so it has been hard to earn a steady income.

Netty has requested a loan so she can purchase pot plants and gardening tools, which she will use to better provide for her valuable customers.

She has been selling her flowers at Port Vila's main market with a group of women that love flowers and have their own flower gardens. She has been in the business for over three years now.

With the revenue earned, she will renovate her old home and save up in case of any family emergencies.

Netty has been with the South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd for over three years now; this is her fourth loan. She has successfully repaid her previous loans on time.

Through her loans, Netty is motivated to expand her business so that it will help financially stabilize her family.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
