The members of the Santiago area Jakoi lo Mita committee are domestic workers who sell homemade products.
On Sundays, they organize raffles of hand-embroidered sheets and quilts. They contribute the proceeds to the common fund which helps them pay their loans and build their savings account. They are neighbors and hold meetings to plan activities.
One of the members, Ms. Ana Maria, sells food that she prepares herself in her home. Usually, she cooks with homemade ingredients using home grown products.
The food that she prepares is transported by bus to the market where she sells everything in a few hours.
In order to earn money to feed her family, she gets up very early every morning to prepare everything and then go to the market to sell her products.
The loan is for the purchase of large lunch boxes which will make it easier to transport the food.
