A loan helped a member to buy more personal care products to sell.

La Fe Group's story

Gladys, a 36 year old married mother of four children (1 mo-9 yrs), possesses three characteristics of a successful entrepreneur. She can sell her personal care products quickly, has a way to advertise them and is highly motivated! Gladys completed high school and graduated with a secretarial degree. Her husband works in an office and, together, the couple strives to cover their household expenses. Gladys advertises on social media and also goes door to door. She is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, disinfectants and anti-bacterial gel.

“La Fe” or “Faith” is the name of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank that Gladys and seven of her friends have formed in the department/state of Totonicapan. Gladys comments, “Thanks to our monthly educational sessions, my friends and I are learning how to plan, invest, take care of our health, learn about hygiene and become more self confident.” The women also learn about prioritizing expenses and the use of medicinal plants. Every other month, they have access to basic health care services delivered by a visiting nurse. Breast, blood sugar and blood pressure exams and PAP smears are just a few of the services offered to the ladies. They also can learn about and obtain family planning.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for the vital role you play in the lives of these women! They are poised to step into a brighter and more prosperous future!
