Soluz Honduras is a social & environmental enterprise located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras working to increase energy access for Hondurans in rural areas using solar technology. Honduras has the second lowest electrification rate in Latin America after Haiti, with 28% of rural households and 44% of all schools lacking access to electricity. Soluz Honduras has worked with Kiva to provide expand energy access to Hondurans since 2014. During that time, Kiva lenders have helped them serve over 685 borrowers with more than $629k lent through the Kiva platform. The global pandemic as well as Hurricanes Eta & Iota have severely impacted the people of Honduras. They were deemed an essential business after being forced to pause operations for two months earlier this year, and have since been uniquely positioned to support small businesses impacted by continuing to provide solar products. Their work has become more critical in the aftermath of the recent hurricanes to combat growing food insecurity by providing energy access to rural communities lacking electricity. With this loan, Soluz can expand operations by purchasing more inventory and open a new sales office to serve the essential energy needs of their borrowers. This loan is the 2nd tranche of their Crisis Support Loan to assist our Field Partners directly so they can continue to support our borrowers.
