The members of the Sabougnouma group are all married women with a median age of 41 and two children. The majority of them live in monogamous families in Hamdallaye, one of the quarters in the village of Sikasso (third administrative region of Mali). They are on their fifth loan with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to meet their clients' needs. Their past loans have been repaid in full.
This group of women sells food condiments, jeweled items (belts called "Baya" used by the women, primarily Wana C.), grains, firewood, etc. With her loan, Wana C. counts on purchasing 15 sets of jewels from the manufacturers and the wholesale distributors at the grand market of Sikasso. The jewelry is sold at the Hamdallaye market and to families, to a clientele composed primarily of women. Sales are done in cash and on credit. She foresees making a monthly profit of 29,500 FCFA, a part of which will be used for her family's needs while the rest will be invested in her business.
In this group: Wana, Kadiatou, Mariam, Bintou
